Royal Challengers Bangalore is one team that has relied upon stars to do the job. Hence, they have splurged big on recruitments at every auction. Over the years, the franchise has had many expensive purchases. However, unfortunately, not all have clicked well for the team. On that note, in this article, we take a look at what the five most expensive buys by RCB in IPL history are up to at the moment.
5. Dinesh Karthik – 10.5 CR (IPL 2015)
Dinesh Karthik played 16 games for RCB in IPL 2015. He could muster just 141 runs at a poor average of 12.82. It was an investment that did not work out for the franchise.
At the moment, DK is doing well in domestic cricket and has found success in commentator as well. He is still fit and is likely to feature in an IPL XI yet again in IPL 2022.
4. Tymal Mills – 12 CR (IPL 2017)
Fast bowling has always been an issue for RCB. Not just the Indian recruits, even the foreign imports have not done well for the team. This department shone probably only once when Mitchell Starc donned the red-and-gold jersey. Since then, the franchise was struggling to replace him and in 2017, they shelled out huge sums of money to procure Tymal Mills. The left-arm seamer from England collected five wickets that season and was a disappointment.
Mills actually faced a rough patch in his career after that stint. He dropped out of the English T20 XI as well. However, he has come back to good form recently. For the 2021 T20 World Cup, he also made it to the English Team. If he can work on his fitness issues, there is more in store for him in the T20 format.
3. Yuvraj Singh – 14 CR (IPL 2014)
Yuvraj Singh features in this list of the most expensive buys by RCB in IPL history. It was one of the signings that were received with a lot of fanfare in the history of IPL. However, RCB had to release him for the immediate season itself.
Yuvi has retired from the game now. He recently announced that he would come back to the game. The Punjab all-rounder also constantly provides his opinions about the game through his social media accounts.
2. Glenn Maxwell – 14.25 CR (IPL 2021)
Glenn Maxwell signed up to play for RCB at the IPL 2021 Auctions. Even though he had been going through a rough phase, RCB placed their trust in the Aussie. Maxi repaid the faith by scoring 513 runs at a strike rate of 144. He was the best batter for the franchise in IPL 2021 and helped the team reach the playoffs.
RCB has now retained Maxwell ahead of IPL 2022 Auctions. The all-rounder, who has been in good form, could also become the captain if there are no suitable options found in the auction.
1. Kyle Jamieson – 15 CR (IPL 2021)
Kyle Jamieson stands at No.1 in this list of the most expensive buys by RCB in IPL history. Ahead of IPL 2021, the pace department was one area that RCB had to improve. With players such as Chris Morris going to other franchises, RCB set its eyes on upcoming talent Kyle Jamieson. They went hard for him and eventually procured him at INR 15 cr. In the season, the Kiwi was mediocre as he played nine games to pick nine wickets at an economy of above 9.
However, in Tests, Kyle Jamieson is in top form at the moment. He was responsible for New Zealand winning the World Test Championship in 2021. The tall pacer will not be a part of IPL 2022. He has not signed up for the auctions and he has revealed that he wants to spend time with his family and hence, will not participate in IPL 2022.
