5 Indian-Origin Cricketers Who Could Play Against India In The 2023 World Cup

The 2023 50-over World Cup will happen in India. It is after 12 long years that the tournament will take place in the country. As hosts, India will be the obvious favourites. Of course, the pressure will also be there on them to win the competition. However, there would be a few Indian-origin players who could hamper India’s progress. In this article, we take a look at five Indian-origin cricketers who could play against India in the 2023 World Cup in India.

1) Ish Sodhi (New Zealand)

Ish Sodhi is one of the Indian-origin cricketers who could play against India in the 2023 World Cup in India. The Ludhiana-born cricketer did well recently when New Zealand faced India in the 2021 T20 World Cup. He could come up again in 2023 against the nation.

Although Sodhi has only played 33 ODIs so far, with the World Cup happening in India, he is likely to be considered by New Zealand. He has the experience and variations to do well on the Indian pitches. In fact, he could as well lead the spin attack for the Kiwis in the competition.

2) Keshav Maharaj (South Africa)

Keshav Maharaj has been in fine form over the past few months. Although he has not done exceptionally well in T20Is, Keshav is a consistent part of the other two formats. His ODI numbers may not read a great picture, but with the 2023 World Cup happening in India, he is surely going to make it to the South African Team.

In fact, if Temba Bavuma does not do well in the next year, Keshav could also captain the team. However, for the moment, it is too far-fetched to talk about it. Nevertheless, purely based on his experience and skills, the spinner will take part in the 2023 World Cup.

3) Rachin Ravindra (New Zealand)

Rachin Ravindra has only played Test and T20I cricket for New Zealand so far. However, it will not be long before he makes an appearance in the ODI format, as well.

The batting all-rounder is technically proficient, and as he showed recently against India in the red-ball format, Rachin has decent skills while batting against spin. He is also a useful spinner and his multi-utility skills could be put to use by the Kiwi management. Therefore, there are high chances he could be part of the ICC event in 2023.

4) Tanveer Sangha (Australia)

Tanveer Sangha is yet to make his international debut, but there is an outside chance that he could take part in the 50-over World Cup in 2023. The spinner has hardly played 50-over cricket, but that will change in 2022.

While Adam Zampa is the lead spinner, Australia would be keen to take a reserve along with the spin-bowling all-rounders like Ashton Agar. By then, to keep him prepared, Australia might use him in the 50-over games leading up to the tournament.

5) Simi Singh (Ireland)

Simi Singh is also one of the Indian-origin cricketers who could play against India in the 2023 World Cup in India. The Irish cricketer is a consistent part of the Ireland team in the past few months. In 2021, the all-rounder performed incredibly, collecting 19 wickets in 13 games.

Simi is also a good batter. He also has a century to his name in ODI cricket. Hence, he is sure to play in the Irish team if it is part of the event. Simi will be one of the players whom Ireland will count on to do well in the competition.
