As per reports, Rajasthan Royals is looking at appointing a new Head Coach for the next season. Kumar Sangakkara could not finish well in IPL 2023 despite starting well. The management will have plenty of options from their old rosters. They could pick a few candidates from that list. On that note, here, we take a look at five former players whom Rajasthan Royals can appoint as the new Head Coach for IPL 2024.
1) Adam Voges
Adam Voges would be an exciting option for RR. The former Australian cricketer is a popular Head Coach in Australia, having recently won the Big Bash League with Perth Scorchers.
Right from team construction to building strategies, Voges seems to have a good success rate. Rajasthan Royals already have a good core, and they would need someone experienced with the modern T20 game to take them forward. Voges, in this context, might be the right option.
2) Shane Watson
Shane Watson is one of the former players whom Rajasthan Royals can appoint as the new Head Coach. It was recently announced that Delhi Capitals had parted ways with Shane Watson. The former Aussie all-rounder was an assistant to Ricky Ponting at DC.
Having acquired the knowledge from Ponting, Watto could be looking to take the next step in his coaching career. A legend of the franchise, the management will also benefit by bringing their former talisman back to the setup. He is aware of the new style of T20 cricket, having played it himself. Hence, it would add value to the squad.
3) Aaron Finch
Aaron Finch is yet to state his desire to become a Head Coach. In fact, he is still an active part of the game. Currently, he is playing in Major League Cricket 2023. A shrewd captain, Finch was a man full of tactics and strategies to outclass the opposition.
Fairly young for this role, RR could take a risk by appointing Finch, who has played one game for the franchise in the past. There would be fresh ideas on the table and if Kumar Sangakkara is still at the helm as the Director of Cricket, it could work wonders for RR.
4) Darren Lehmann
Darren Lehmann is also one of the former players whom Rajasthan Royals can appoint as the new Head Coach. If RR is looking for an experienced option, Lehmann could be a choice. The Aussie played for RR in IPL 2008 and later won the IPL also as a Head Coach with Deccan Chargers in 2009.
Lehmann is an experienced name and might bring out the best in the squad. He himself would want to prove a point and therefore, RR can consider him.
5) Mohammed Kaif
If RR needs to explore an Indian option, they could try someone like Mohammed Kaif. The former India cricketer was a part of the Delhi Capitals setup as an assistant coach.
Kaif is yet to manage big teams but it would be a risk worth taking. The Uttar Pradesh-based former player might have a philosophy in place that could work well for the outfit.
