As the WWE Money in the Bank comes nearer than ever, it is time to rekindle memories of all the cash-ins that has happened in the roster and the entire WWE Universe would do well to never forget it. From daylight heists to pulling it off with all the ethics of a true baby-face, the cash-ins have been witness to many such memories that would ring louder than ever in the ears of the WWE fans.
With the PPV knocking on the doors, here are five moments that would always remain in the hearts of the fans, etched in the brightest of colours, particularly because of the timing, the opportunity and the historic moments that follow suit, screaming through the years of the WWE Universe.
#1 Edge – New Year’s Revolution, 2006
It was the first Money in the Bank cash-in and the WWE Universe was in the dark. They had no idea of where it all was going to head to and how was the champion Edge going to use the opportunity. When John Cena retained his WWE Championship inside the Elimination Chamber, Vince McMahon announced that Edge was going to cash in his MITB contract. This is how the first ever cash-in happened blazing the trail for the upcoming MITB winners, particularly heels.
#2 Dean Ambrose, MITB, 2016
2016 saw the fragments of the Shield going head on against each other as Roman Reigns battled to be at the top of the ladder while Seth Rollins had just returned from an injury and wanted the belt for himself. It was Seth Rollins who defeated Roman Reigns to clinch the title but within moments of his triumph, Dean Ambrose’s music hit and the rest they say is history.
#3 Alexa Bliss, MITB, 2018
In one of the most underrated MITB cash-ins, it was Alexa Bliss who created history by becoming the first woman in the history of WWE to lift the MITB contract and also intervene between Ronda Rousey and Nia Jax to clinch the title for herself. Imagine the guts that was shown by her to defy the might of her counterparts and eventually bag the title for herself.
#4 Dolph Ziggler, RAW, 2013
In 2013, the first Raw after WM, Dolph Ziggler attacked Alberto Del Rio as the latter was reeling from the effects of a handicapped match against Zeb Colter and Zack Swagger. Swagger’s Ankle Lock also left him gasping for breath while Dolph Ziggler played the perfect heel to clinch the title from an exhausted Rio only for the latter to win it back in just 69 days.
#5 Seth Rollins, Wrestlemania, 2015
The dream of making history at Wrestlemania was lived by Seth Rollins. In the main-event between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns as the two heavyweights tired each other out, Seth Rollins pounced on that opportunity to cash in. By the time he went for the stomp on Lesnar, he caught him and while he was about to throw Rollins down in a F5, Roman Reigns speared him and then he got the full brunt of a stomp, with Seth Rollins clinching the title for himself after the pinfall.
