It has been two seasons since IPL happened in the regular home-and-away format. IPL 2022 will also not happen in the previous format. The competition will be held across Mumbai and Pune while the playoff venues are yet to be decided. Since Wankhede Stadium will host a few games, Mumbai Indians, who are based out of the stadium, will be playing a few home encounters. No other team will have this advantage. It would be hard to beat MI at Wankhede and four teams will have the challenge of defeating the five-time winners. In this article, we take a look at the four teams that will face Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in IPL 2022.
1) Lucknow Super Giants – 24th April
New arrival Lucknow Super Giants is one of the teams that will face Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in IPL 2022. MI’s return to the Wankhede Stadium will be through this encounter. While Mumbai will be obviously confident, LSG will also have a good chance. Former Mumbai Indians players such as Quinton de Kock and Krunal Pandya are now part of LSG. KL Rahul has done well at the stadium and this will also be a boost for the Andy Flower-coached franchise.
2) Chennai Super Kings – 12th May
The Wankhede Stadium has seen some iconic clashes between the two franchises. Yet again, both teams will go against each other at the venue. The composition of both teams has changed now. Hence, it will be interesting as to who will come out as the winner of this game.
3) Sunrisers Hyderabad – 17th May
SRH will take on Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on 17th May. It will be an interesting game as both teams have done well in the competition in recent years. SRH did disappoint in IPL 2021 but they have formed a decent squad for IPL 2022.
4) Delhi Capitals – 21st May
Delhi Capitals is also one of the teams that will face Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in IPL 2022. MI will play their final league game at Wankhede and it will be an advantage for them if the league stage is going down to the wire. That said, DC also has a strong squad with Mumbaikars such as Prithvi Shaw, Sarfraz Khan and Shardul Thakur who would know the pitch very well.
