WWE Payback will return to the premium live event calendar of 2023. The show has not happened since 2020. The last time Payback took place in WWE, Roman Reigns beat Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman in a triple threat match for the Universal Championship.
Roman Reigns has not lost the Universal Championship since that show, which happened at the Thunderdome back in the COVID era. However, Reigns has not been advertised for the upcoming show. Similarly, Brock Lesnar will miss the show as well.

As a result, WWE will have to bring back some big names to ensure that Payback is a memorable show. Here’s a list of five Superstars who can return.
1. Randy Orton may return to WWE for Payback 2023
The ‘Payback’ term generally refers to revenge. Perhaps, WWE can bring Randy Orton on an upcoming episode of RAW and book him to betray Matt Riddle for turning him into a tag team star from a world champion caliber star. Orton vs Riddle can then headline the Payback show.
2. Rikishi can return to WWE for Payback 2023
WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi is the father of former tag team champions, The Usos. Jimmy recently betrayed Jey at SummerSlam, thereby sowing the seeds for a singles match at Payback. If Rikishi returns as the special guest referee, it will add more to the drama.
3. Edge

Edge is all set to return to WWE for his 25th anniversary celebration. The Hall of Famer may have one of the final feuds of his career on the way to SummerSlam. The ideal opponent for Edge can be Grayson Waller.
4. Beth Phoenix
Beth Phoenix still has a score to settle with the Women’s World Champion, Rhea Ripley. Also, Rhea’s reign needs some big title defenses because it has been a forgettable one so far. Rhea vs Beth at Payback can be a show-stealer.
