In the Indian Premier League, you could still see the teams not trusting an Indian Head Coach. It could be due to various reasons. It has been close to almost two decades but yet, a few teams have not had an Indian Head Coach till now. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of four IPL franchises that never had an Indian Head Coach until IPL 2025.
Note: We have not considered franchises who were there in IPL only for a brief period (LSG, GT, PWI, KTK, GL & RPS).
1) Chennai Super Kings
CSK is one of the IPL franchises that never had an Indian Head Coach until IPL 2025. Kepler Wessels was the Head Coach in IPL 2008 and since then, Fleming has been at the helm. Considering they have had only two coaches so far, it is kind of justifiable why they have not gone for an Indian name. That said, after MS Dhoni retires, he could become the Head Coach of the side.
2) Sunrisers Hyderabad (Deccan Chargers had an Indian Head Coach)
While Deccan Chargers had Robin Singh at the helm in IPL 2008, since then, mostly it has been an overseas coach. After SRH came into the league, they have only had overseas coaches. Tom Moody was at the helm for the longest time in Hyderabad.
3) Delhi Capitals
Delhi Capitals is also one of the IPL franchises that never had an Indian Head Coach until IPL 2025. While the likes of Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly have held a Mentor Role, the franchise has not had an Indian Head Coach. There are reports that they could break this streak for IPL 2025.
4) Rajasthan Royals
Rahul Dravid will coach the side in IPL 2025. He was in a Mentor role before. However, apart from that, only foreign coaches have been at the franchise. Shane Warne was the most successful in this regard.
