4 foreign players who missed entire IPL 2023 but could still be retained before IPL 2024 Auctions

It is understandable when an Indian player misses an entire IPL and still gets retained for the next season. However, unless a foreign player is elite, he does not get that luxury in the IPL. That said, a few foreigners are set to experience this in the upcoming season. On that note, here, we take a look at four foreign players who missed the entire IPL 2023 but could still be retained before the IPL 2024 Auctions.

1) Will Jacks – Royal Challengers Bangalore

It was unfortunate that Will Jacks missed IPL 2023 due to an injury. Since coming back from his injury, he has been in stunning form. RCB can consider him as the future replacement of either Glenn Maxwell or Faf du Plessis. Will Jacks can play at various slots in the batting order and that further helps his case.

Jacks’ replacement Michael Bracewell is also currently injured. Hence, RCB might stick with their initial acquisition. With his off-spin bowling, he adds balance and since he is young, there is the advantage of a long-term potential, as well.

2) Kyle Jamieson – Chennai Super Kings

Kyle Jamieson is one of the foreign players who missed the entire IPL 2023 but could still be retained before the IPL 2024 Auctions. It was a surprise when Jamieson was picked by CSK. This signing appeared to be coming straight from the brains of Stephen Fleming.

It won’t be a surprise, though, if Jamieson is retained by CSK. He is just the kind of versatile player that MS Dhoni and CSK likes. Further, he is tall, extracts serious bounce, and is a wonderful new-ball bowler. There is spark in him that the CSK management can make use of. Therefore, the franchise might retain him, especially because his salary is also not that high.

3) Jhye Richardson – Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians have a few injury-prone pacers. Amidst this, it might be hard to have some quality pacers on the side. In this context, the franchise can back Jhye although he missed the last season and is still having some injury issues.

Jhye is an upcoming pacer who just has not been able to strike big due to his injury problems. However, if he can play a run of games in the IPL, there is proper potential in him to do well in the competition. MI can believe this and keep hold of the player for IPL 2024, as well.

4) Jonny Bairstow – Punjab Kings

Jonny Bairstow is also one of the foreign players who missed the entire IPL 2023 but could still be retained before the IPL 2024 Auctions. Bairstow was still recovering, and hence, he had to miss the entire season for Punjab Kings. There is no doubt that he would be retained before the next campaign.

Bairstow adds a lot of balance to the side with his aggressive opening and also donning the wicket-keeper role. There are very few who come close to what Bairstow can offer to a T20 team. Therefore, despite his absence in IPL 2023, he will be retained by PBKS for the next campaign.
