4 batters who could be in the next ‘Fab Four’ in International Cricket

It was a few years ago that the term ‘Fab Four’ was invented in International cricket. Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Kane Williamson and Joe Root were in top form. They were competing against each other constantly and hence, they earned this special honour. The likes of Babar Azam have also entered the conversation in recent times. However, for Babar, there have not been many contemporaries who have done well to form such a category. That said, at the moment, there are quite a few batters who are starting to do well. In the next decade or so, they are all set to dominate world cricket. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of four batters who could be the next ‘Fab Four’ in International Cricket.

1) Marnus Labuschagne

Marnus Labuschagne is already 28 years old but it is now that he is slowly stepping on the gas pedal. Unfortunately, for him, the COVID era applied brakes on his consistent run. Nevertheless, with him playing more games now, he is set to take up a Steve Smith-esque role in the Aussie team soon.

While Tests are his forte, he has started to do well in ODIs, too. There are quite a few spots opening up in the T20I squad. If Marnus can improve his game to do well in the shortest format, he would easily be a part of the conversation.

2) Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill is also one of the batters who could be in the next ‘Fab Four’ in International Cricket. The Punjab cricketer has firmly established himself as the next big thing in world cricket.

At least in India, there are not many young batters as talented as Gill right now. He recently scored a century in the T20I format. With this, he now has centuries in all three formats and he is just 23. In the coming days, he could also get a middle-order role in Tests, which would further allow him to concrete his position as an elite batter.

3) Harry Brook

Harry Brook is another cricketer who is slowly making a mark in world cricket. He did exceptionally well in Pakistan and it appears that he would ace the other challenges, too.

Brook is a middle-order batter and has shown adaptability for all three formats. Yes, he has not played in tough conditions but he has the skills to do well in them.

4) Dewald Brevis

Dewald Brevis is one of the batters who could be the next ‘Fab Four’ in International Cricket. At 19 years of age, Brevis has shown that he has got the skills to become a top batter in the future. One of his current weaknesses includes facing high-end pace and hard lengths. However, he has a lot of time to work on it.

It is inevitable that in the next few months, Brevis would make his debut for South Africa. Yes, he would be under a lot of attention but that comes with the package in the current era. Brevis must just stick to his basics and focus on his game, which would allow him to realize his full potential.
