It was a disappointing series for England against India. They had a good start but could not put up a fight in the next games. Brendon McCullum could change a few things before England wears the whites again. On that note, here, we take a look at three white-ball specialists whom England could select in the Test squad for the next series.
1) Will Jacks
It was a surprise that Will Jacks failed to make it to the Test squad for the India series. He is a decent spinner but his batting abilities make him stand aside.
That said, going forward, England must ensure that Jacks is kept in the Test squad. He is a talented cricketer and can surely be the spin-bowling all-rounder that England is looking for.
2) Sam Curran
It was mainly due to his injury issues that Sam Curran was restricted to the white-ball formats, despite his strong start to his Test career. However, that might change soon.
Sam Curran is someone who can make use of the red-ball well. He already showed that in his debut series against India. Plus, it is time that England starts looking for batting depth in red-ball cricket, as well. Hence, Curran could be a good choice for England in the future.
3) Jos Buttler
Jos Buttler is one of the white-ball specialists whom England could select in the Test squad for the next series. Ben Foakes had a disastrous series but he was not dropped because there were no replacements available for him.
The 2024 T20 World Cup could be one of the final big events for Jos Buttler as a white-ball skipper. Hence, there is time for him to focus on his red-ball career. If Buttler had been in the place of Foakes, he surely would have had at least one memorable outing with the bat. England must hence look for bringing Jos back to the Test squad.
