Mumbai Indians will be really active to get their franchise back in form. For this, they could target a few players who did well in the T20 World Cup. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three top performers in the 2024 T20 WC whom Mumbai Indians might target for IPL 2025.
Note: The below list comprises players assuming they will be released by their respective current franchises before IPL 2025 Mega Auctions.
1) Fazalhaq Farooqi
The Afghan pacer, who did not play a single game in IPL 2024, will attract a lot of interest at the upcoming auctions. He is likely to finish as the highest wicket-taker of the 2024 T20 World Cup.
With Farooqi, there is a terrific new-ball value and a lot of variations across all the phases. He is just 23 and there is scope for further development. With Bumrah at the other end, he can learn and develop his game further.
2) Saurabh Netravalkar
Saurabh Netravalkar is one of the top performers in the 2024 T20 WC whom Mumbai Indians might target for IPL 2025. Mumbai Indians always have liked left-arm pacers. It would not be a surprise if they had two overseas options in the team for IPL 2025.
As the second choice, they could target USA cricketer Saurabh, who did extremely well in the T20 World Cup. It needs to be noted that Saurabh is from Mumbai and has played for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy before. For this connection, at least, MI could consider signing him.
3) Marcus Stoinis
Yes, there is Hardik Pandya as the all-rounder but MI might need someone experience to help Hardik in the finishing department. Till now, Tim David has not been great.
Stoinis is in the final few years of his career. Yet, he can be a solid choice for the team. In fact, if MI has a change in the opening combination, they could also consider Stoinis for this role. With his strength, Stoinis would fancy clearing the boundaries at Wankhede very frequently.
