Shikhar Dhawan is yet to announce his retirement. It is not sure if teams would be interested in him at the next auctions. That said, he is a class batter with loads of experience. A few teams might go after him. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three teams which could target Shikhar Dhawan if he enters IPL 2025 Auctions.
1) Delhi Capitals
Jake Fraser-McGurk will surely be one of the primary options to open the batting for DC in the coming seasons. If that happens, DC might need someone experienced and probably a left-hander at the other end.
In this regard, at least until JFM settles down in IPL, Shikhar would be a fine choice. He has done well for Delhi before and he is anyways a local man. The fans would also be pleased with his inclusion.
2) Chennai Super Kings
CSK is one of the teams which could target Shikhar Dhawan if he enters IPL 2025 Auctions. The management tried Ruturaj Gaikwad at No.3 in IPL 2024. Considering he might need that for his India career, as well, Rutu could stick to No.3 in IPL 2025.
CSK usually likes experienced cricketers and Shikhar’s profile might impress the likes of MS Dhoni. He is not bad against spinners and can be very suitable against the pacers. If not as the first-choice opening option, he can be a backup and also mentor the youngsters in the setup.
3) Mumbai Indians
As per reports, MI will release both Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan before the next season. While someone like Ishan can be targeted, it could be hard to get back someone as prolific and experienced as Rohit Sharma.
Shikhar Dhawan could be an option in this regard. Definitely not a long-term choice, he can do well for may be two years at Wankhede. Hence, he is on this list for MI.
