In the new rule by BCCI, a team can retain an Indian as an uncapped player if he has not played for India in the last five years. This retention comes at a price of just INR 4 Cr. A few teams might make use of this opportunity. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three teams which could retain a capped Indian as an uncapped player before the IPL 2025 Auctions.
1) Chennai Super Kings
Of course, this rule seems to be made for MS Dhoni and it will be a big shock if CSK does not make use of it. Retaining MSD at INR 4 Cr is a big coup.
Apart from the on-field value he adds, MS Dhoni is such a big brand that makes the league itself more popular. Getting more out of him will only help the franchise and the tournament.
2) Rajasthan Royals
Amidst all the debates, it appears that Rajasthan Royals could be the most benefited team from this rule. They can retain Sandeep Sharma, who has not played for India for a while now.
Sandeep has done really well for RR in the last two seasons. Initially signed as a replacement for Prasidh Krishna, Sandeep surprised all with his ability to excel at the death. He was anyways good with the new ball. His age is also perfect to serve RR for a few more seasons. Hence, RR is on this list.
3) Gujarat Titans
Gujarat Titans is one of the teams which could retain a capped Indian as an uncapped player before the IPL 2025 Auctions. MS Dhoni’s last event for India was also the last tournament for Vijay Shankar till now. Hence, he qualifies for the criteria.
Mohit Sharma is also available in this regard. With the kind of form he is in, it would not be bad to spend INR 4 Cr on him. Hence, he is also on this list.
