As per the latest reports, BCCI is set to sanction 3 retentions + 1 RTM for each franchise ahead of the IPL 2024 Auctions. This rule will benefit a few teams while some of the other franchises may not like this rule. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three teams that will benefit the most if 3 retentions + 1 RTM is allowed for IPL 2025 Auctions.
1) Delhi Capitals
Irrespective of any combination, the Top 3 retentions for DC would have been Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav. Now, through the RTM option, they can get back Tristan Stubbs or JFM. They can bid for the other players who missed out.
At the same time, DC would get access to some of the released players from the other teams. With a strong core, they can target a squad for the future.
2) Gujarat Titans
Gujarat Titans is one of the teams that will benefit the most if 3 retentions + 1 RTM is allowed for IPL 2025 Auctions. The IPL 2022 champions will also be a bit happy if this combination goes through.
Shubman Gill and Rashid Khan will be the preferred retentions. Then, the remaining Retention + RTM could be used to have B Sai Sudharsan and Mohammed Shami in the squad. Of course, they will have to take some risks if they want to get the likes of Noor Ahmed and Rahul Tewatia back in the team.
3) Punjab Kings
It would not be a surprise if Punjab Kings did not retain a single player before the auctions. They do not have players who could be worthy of retention on their current form.
With a full purse, PBKS will take advantage of other teams being forced to release their top cricketers. Also, PBKS can still retain uncapped cricketers like Prabhsimran Singh to prepare the core of the franchise.
