Babar Azam has stepped down as the Pakistan white-ball captain. Of course, all eyes would now go towards the likes of Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Rizwan. While workload is an issue with Shaheen, it is not clear if Rizwan can be the best solution at the moment. Therefore, Pakistan could have a different approach to the problem. They could have an out-of-the-box choice in mind. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three surprising candidates Pakistan might consider as the next white-ball captain.
1) Saud Shakeel
Saud Shakeel is the vice-captain of the Test side. Surely, there, he is being considered as the future captain of the team.
Hence, there is no reason why he cannot be groomed in the white-ball formats, as well. Yes, he has hardly played a lot of ODI games and that could be a risky call. However, Pakistan need to see the future and Saud can be a decent pick.
2) Mohammad Haris
Mohammad Haris is one of the surprising candidates Pakistan might consider as the next white-ball captain. Again, he is very inexperienced but he has the potential to take the team forward.
He already has some experience for Pakistan Shaheens and also at the domestic level. Considering he is a quality batter, as well, Pakistan might consider his name.
3) Fakhar Zaman
It is mostly because of his batting exploits that Zaman finds a mention on this list. He has been with the Pakistan Team for a long time now and he has all the experience to help and lead the side.
He is in good form and the frame of mind could be perfect to take on an additional task. He also has decent experience as a captain at the domestic level. Hence, he is on this list.
