Johannesburg Super Kings did not have a great start to SA20 2024. However, they made amends by winning crucial encounters and they finished at No.3 on the final standings. Yet, the management might take the CSK route of having more youngsters in the setup as they go forward. In the first two seasons, the core of the team comprised many veterans, especially in 2024. This is something the franchise could change in the coming months. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three popular stars whom Joburg Super Kings might release before the next season.
1) Imran Tahir
It was mainly due to his strong show in CPL that JSK trusted Imran Tahir for SA20 2024. He did deliver, taking some key wickets and helping the franchise reach the playoffs.
However, Tahir is well past 40 and the franchise might groom a younger player to become the lead spinner of the side. In this regard, Tahir might be released but it won’t be a surprise if the leg-spinner gets a contract as a coach.
2) David Wiese
David Wiese is one of the popular stars whom Joburg Super Kings might release before the next season. The Namibian all-rounder was one of the players who joined the side for this season.
While he adds experience, he might not be ideal for the future. Hence, in the interest of the future of the side, JSK might release the cricketer before the next campaign.
3) Moeen Ali
Moeen Ali has been very inconsistent in recent months. At the moment, he does not have a confirmed place in the starting XI for CSK in IPL 2024.
That said, even JSK might not consider him for the future. While he is a good all-rounder, the franchise needs to build a young core and for that, they might have to bring in a younger all-rounder to the side.
