A total of 10 teams will be in action during the ICC World Cup 2023 and many global superstars will be part of the tournament. But we might not see some of the popular players playing in the event. In this piece, we take popular players who might not play in ICC World Cup 2023:

Kane Williamson

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson will be among the popular players who might not play in ICC World Cup 2023. The right-hander ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee while fielding at the boundary ropes in the opening game of the IPL 2023 and after that was ruled out of the tournament. He underwent surgery but his recovery will take a lot of time. Although he’s pushing really hard and recovering well but it’s unlikely that he will be part of the World Cup. It’ll be massive blow to the Kiwi team and in his absence, Tom Latham or Tim Southee is likely to captain the team.

Marnus Labuschagne

Marnus Labuschagne is another popular player that will be missing the ICC World Cup 2023. Australia cricket team recently named their preliminary squad for the tournament and to many’s surprise, Marnus Labuschagne’s name didn’t feature in the squad. He has been a regular member of the team in ODIs and it came as a surprise that he wasn’t picked in the team. He so far has played 30 ODIs and has scored 847 runs at an average of 31.37. Apart from this he also has scored one century and 6 half-centuries in this format.

Rishabh Pant

One of the most popular players that will be missing the ICC World Cup 2023 will be Indian wicketkeeper batter, Rishabh Pant. The left-hander met with a tragic life-threatening accident in December 2022 and since then has been out of action. He has been putting in hard yards in the nets but still will be taking time to get match fit. He has started batting as well as keeping but lacks match fitness. It is learned that he will take a few more months to make his comeback and by the end of the year, we might see him in action.
