Not many knew about Akash Deep until he had a stellar Day 1 on his India debut against England. Since then, he has been in fine form. Even in the Duleep Trophy, he was brilliant. With such kind of form, it could be hard to displace him from the side. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three players whose Test career could be halted due to Akash Deep’s rise in form.
1) Shardul Thakur
Despite all the shortcomings, Shardul Thakur was clutch with the bat when needed and delivered some important breakthroughs at key junctions. However, his spot for the overseas Tests might be in danger.
Akash Deep is decent with the bat although he may not be ready for the No.8 role. However, with the ball, he has been brilliant. He is a serial wicket-taker and hence, Shardul may not be considered by the management.
2) Mukesh Kumar
Mukesh Kumar is one of the players whose Test career could be halted due to Akash Deep’s rise in form. Even before his state teammate Akash Deep was selected for the Indian Team, Mukesh Kumar had played for India in all the formats.
Mukesh was decent in some of the games he got. However, he did not inspire a lot of confidence like what Akash Deep has done. Therefore, Akash Deep is now clearly ahead on the pecking order. Mukesh might not get another chance in the near future.
3) Prasidh Krishna
Many expected Prasidh to do well in South Africa. With his height and hit-the-deck ability, he should have been more penetrative. However, he could not do that.
Plus, he had injury issues and so far, he has not been able to play consistently. Meanwhile, Akash Deep has shown his talent to the management. Hence, Prasidh might have to spend some more time on the bench.
