3 Players Whose Salary Went Down But Performance Went Up In IPL 2022

IPL 2022 started on March 26, with 10 fresh squads competing against each other to win the big prize. Debutants Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants joined the eight existing franchises in the race. All eyes were on the released players as a few of them could not produce a good performance in IPL 2021.

Unsurprisingly, the salaries of some players who could not perform well in 2021 went down at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Some of them probably took it as a motivation and improved their numbers this season. Here’s a list of three players whose salary reduced in IPL 2022 but performance went up.

1. Riley Meredith – One of the players who has impressed fans with his performance

Punjab Kings stunned the fans when they bought Riley Meredith for a massive 8 crore at the IPL 2021 Auction. The Mohali-based franchise picked Meredith in their playing XI for five matches, where he returned with four wickets at an economy rate of 9.94.

At the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, the Mumbai Indians signed him for INR 1 crore. Meredith has only played three games for MI so far, but he has already picked up five wickets. His economy rate has come down to 7.42.

2. David Warner

Sunrisers Hyderabad paid 12.5 crore to David Warner for his services in IPL 2021. Warner had a forgettable IPL season as he scored 195 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of 107.73.

Delhi Capitals bought him for 6.25 crore in IPL 2022, and in eight games for DC, he has aggregated 356 runs at a strike rate of 156.83.

3. MS Dhoni

A rather surprising name present on this list is MS Dhoni. He himself asked for a pay cut and asked CSK not to retain him as the first player. Dhoni’s salary has reduced to 12 crore this year.

However, his batting performance has improved a lot. Dhoni managed 114 runs in 16 matches of IPL 2021 at a strike rate of 106.54. This year, he has already scored 142 runs in nine innings. His highest score is 50, while his strike rate has been 130.28.
