Team India’s core is almost set for the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia. However, the management has a few new options based on the proceedings so far in IPL 2022. Since these cricketers have been doing well, the selectors could consider them for the upcoming ICC event at the end of this year. On that note, in this article, we take a look at three players who might be reconsidered in India’s team for the 2022 T20 World cup.
Note: The stats are as of April 16th, 2022.
1) Dinesh Karthik
Matches: 6 || Runs: 197 || Average: 197 || Strike Rate: 209
Dinesh Karthik last played a T20I game for India back in 2019. Considering he is a game-changer at the death, it is surprising that he has not been part of the Indian Team since then. Nevertheless, at the age of 36, he is back, knocking at the doors of the squad.
Batting at the death is one of the toughest jobs for a batter. DK has excelled in the responsibility this season. He is extremely dangerous when he comes up against pace and since the next T20 World Cup is in Australia, the RCB wicket-keeper might get a chance. There is a lot of competition at the moment but if DK can continue his form, anything is possible.
2) T Natarajan
Matches: 5 || Wickets: 11 || Economy: 8.5
Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer T Natarajan is one of the players who might be reconsidered in India’s team for the 2022 T20 World cup. Although he had a great start to his T20I career, since March 2021, Nattu has not played a T20I game.
The main reason for that was his injury and his rusty form after recovering from it. That said, in the ongoing IPL season, he is doing well for SRH. He looks fresh, fit and is delivering the job at the death on a consistent basis. Considering India would need a left-arm pace option for the event, Nattu can be a valuable addition to the team.
3) Kuldeep Yadav
Matches: 5 || Wickets: 11 || Economy: 8.24
The last few years have not gone well for Kuldeep in T20I cricket. He played 2 games in 2019, 1 match in 2020 and two more encounters in 2021. He recently made a comeback to the T20I squad in 2022.
The left-arm wrist-spinner is in good form at the moment. He is controlling the middle-overs for Delhi Capitals with his variations and ability to take wickets. There are very few players in world cricket who have the same profile as Kuldeep. He adds a lot of variety and could be useful in Australia, where the tracks offer some bounce. Hence, the Uttar Pradesh leggie does have an outside chance of an opportunity in the T20 WC.
