Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim recently withdrew their retirement to play in the 2024 T20 World Cup. It may not be a surprise if a few more names join this list. Here, we take a look at the list of three players who could withdraw retirement to play in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
1) Sunil Narine
Sunil Narine is back to form, especially with the bat. The form that he is in, he will compete with one of the best batters if he chooses to play in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Also, with West Indies hosting the event and them in need of a good result, calling back Narine will help the squad. Akeal Hosein will lead the spin attack but having Narine would further strengthen this department. Also, like KKR, West Indies could also use him as an opener, which would further help the side.
2) David Willey
David Willey announced his retirement from all forms of the game in the 2023 ODI World Cup. He also pulled out of IPL 2024 due to personal reasons. That said, he is a quality player and he still has the age to do well for his country.
Sam Curran and Reece Topley have been in good form. However, since Topley is injury-prone, it is always wise to have a good backup. In this regard, it makes sense for the ECB to have Willey on the squad.
3) Alex Hales
Alex Hales is one of the players who could withdraw retirement to play in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Last year, Alex Hales announced retirement from all forms of the game. It needs to be noted that he was influential in England winning the 2022 T20 World Cup.
England does have solid options at the top of the order. However, Hales offers experience and a danger for the opposition. Hence, if the board needs him, it won’t be a surprise if he is back.
