3 Players who could replace David Warner for Australia in Test Cricket

David Warner will play his last Test match in January 2024.

David Warner has been an absolute champion player for Australia in all three formats of the game. It’s fair to say that he has been the best opener of this generation as he time and time again has proved his worth for the team and has won them many matches on his own. Not only as an opener but he’s also considered as overall great of the game because of what he has done for the game.

3 Players who could replace David Warner for Australia in Test Cricket

David Warner is approaching the fag end of his career. While we might see a prolonged career in white-ball cricket, he has confirmed his Test retirement, stating that he will be playing his Test game in the longest format of the game against Pakistan in January. With him retiring, it’ll be a headache for the team to find another opener and in this piece, we take a look at 3 Players who could replace David Warner for Australia in Test Cricket:

Matthew Renshaw

Matthew Renshaw is one of the players that are in contention to replace David Warner for Australia in Test Cricket. The left-handed batter has been part of the team for a while but hasn’t been getting enough chances. He played in the middle order in the Test series against India but couldn’t really get his feet going in that series. But his domestic record is something that attracts many. He has played 14 games for Australia thus far and has scored 645 runs at an average of just below 30 and also has three fifties and one half-century to his name.

Cameron Bancroft

Cameron Bancroft could be another player that can be in line to replace David Warner in the Australian Test team. After being banned due to the sandpaper gate, he didn’t get desired chances but has been scoring truckloads of runs for his team in the domestic circuit. In the last season, he scored 945 at 59.06, which included four hundreds. With the kind of domestic season he had it was expected that he would make it into the team for Ashes 2023 but unfortunately that couldn’t happen. He last played the most recent of his 10 Tests during the 2019 Ashes.

Marcus Harris

Marcus Harris is another opener that could replace David Warner for Australia in Test Cricket. He has been travelling with the team as a backup opener and might be the first-choice player to replace him. He has so far played 14 Test matches for Australia and has scored 607 runs in those games. He would want to improve his average of 25.29 and has smashed 3 half-centuries as well.
