The impact Player rule is one of the drastic changes to the dynamics of the game in IPL. It has actually extended the careers of a few players in the league. IPL 2024 Auctions, as well, proved that. On that note, here, we take a look at three players who could have gone unsold in IPL 2024 Auctions if there was no Impact Player rule.
1) Umesh Yadav
Umesh Yadav is one of the best new-ball bowlers in the history of IPL. However, he is not very popular for his game in the middle overs and at the death.
It is purely for his new-ball ability that Gujarat Titans were hard for him. If not for the Impact Player, we might have also seen some high bidding for a player like Kartik Tyagi.
2) Jaydev Unadkat
Jaydev Unadkat is one of the players who could have gone unsold in IPL 2024 Auctions if there was no Impact Player rule. While he was playing for RPS and later for a few seasons with RR, Unadkat was an excellent bowler in all the phases of the game. He used to open the bowling and then used to be efficient with his variations.
However, in recent years, Unadkat has not been doing well in the IPL. For IPL 2024, he was hired by SRH so that could be an option to share the new-ball with Bhuvi. If there was no Impact Player rule, may be, SRH would have gone for an all-phase pacer.
3) Manish Pandey
Manish Pandey was one of the last-minute signings by KKR at the IPL 2024 Auctions. While he can be used as a backup for the batters, if KKR loses some early wickets while they are batting first, Manish could also be used as an Impact Player.
However, if not for this rule, Manish would have probably gone unsold. His form in recent years has been poor and hence, his IPL career could have come to a temporary halt.
