3 players who could get more chances in England’s Test XI after James Anderson’s retirement

Replacing James Anderson may actually be impossible. However, England must find ways to make his absence less felt with the help of other resources. A few cricketers could get more chances after the legend’s retirement. Here, we take a look at three players who could get more chances in England’s Test XI after James Anderson’s retirement.

1) Sam Curran

Of course, all of it depends on whether Sam Curran himself wants to feature in the red-ball setup. Assuming he does, he would be a worthy option to have in the playing XI. Going by his initial promise in this format, there is talent available to be tapped.

Curran is good with the bat and hence, there is more value to the side. As mentioned earlier, all of it depends on his plans for the red-ball and the white-ball formats.

2) Matthew Potts

Matthew Potts is one of the players who could get more chances in England‘s Test XI after James Anderson‘s retirement. He is already a part of the setup. In fact, for the next game, he could replace James Anderson in the playing XI. This could happen in the future, as well.

Having made his debut in 2022, it has been scattered opportunities for him, till now. However, he has done well in most of the games he got. Even playing in India for the England Lions, he looked very sharp and capable. With the bat, as well, Potts can be a contributor.

3) Sam Cook

Apart from giving opportunities to already-capped cricketers, a few uncapped ones could also be in the fray. Sam Cook is one of them.

Representing Essex, he has had a fine run in the last few seasons. Yes, statistics mean a different thing but he seems to have the skills to play for England in the long run.
