3 players who could be released before IPL 2024 Auctions despite doing well in 2023 ODI World Cup

The dynamics involved in IPL can be very surprising at times. The ODI World Cup is happening in India and it is obvious that if a player is doing well, he shall be retained by a franchise. But, the opposite can also happen. On that note, here, we take a look at three players who could be released before the IPL 2024 Auctions despite doing well in the 2023 ODI World Cup.

1) Josh Hazlewood – Royal Challengers Bangalore

In both of the last two seasons, Josh arrived late to the IPL due to fitness reasons. After he came back, while he did well, he struggled to keep the consistency.

RCB now has a new management and they might need money to build the squad again. Josh is on a high salary and hence, he might have to lose out on his contract.

2) Adam Zampa – Rajasthan Royals

Adam Zampa is one of the players who could be released before the IPL 2024 Auctions despite doing well in the 2023 ODI World Cup. He had a struggle at the start but picked wickets in a heap to end up as a top wicket-taker in the ODI World Cup.

However, his form was not great in IPL 2023. With Yuzi also in the setup at RR, it is unlikely that he will get a lot of games. RR might go ahead with some new tactics and as a part of this, it won’t be a surprise if they release the in-form Australian cricketer.

3) Kane Williamson – Gujarat Titans

Kane Williamson has done well in both the ODI World Cup games that he has played. This is despite coming back from an injury.

However, GT might be forced to release the player due to his injury history. The franchise could look to re-invest the INR 2 Crores elsewhere. It actually won’t be a shock if Kane himself pulls out of the tournament.
