In the past, we have seen players announce their retirement midway through the season. A player might wait to rethink his decision and then make a move in the best interest of himself and the team. Especially with the Mega Auction likely to happen, some players could retire. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three players who could announce retirement midway through IPL 2024.
1) Dinesh Karthik
There are already reports that DK has decided to hang up his boots after IPL 2024. However, an official confirmation is yet to arrive.
Even last season, DK struggled with fitness and form. Also, with more youngsters coming through in his department, DK could decide to step aside and allow the youngsters to take over.
2) MS Dhoni
It would be a major surprise if MS Dhoni does not retire after IPL 2024. Already struggling with his knee issues, MS Dhoni would be aware that there is a mega-auction for IPL 2025. With CSK in mind, he could decide to retire.
However, knowing his moves in the past, he is not someone who would attract a lot of attention while announcing his decision. Hence, midway through the season, when not many are expecting him to retire, MS Dhoni could make an official announcement.
3) Amit Mishra
Amit Mishra is one of the players who could announce retirement midway through IPL 2024. The veteran leg-spinner is one of the highest wicket-takers in the IPL. In IPL 2023, he was used by LSG intelligently as an Impact Player often. This helped him to deliver his best in the middle overs.
However, considering his age, IPL 2024 could be his last. He might decide to retire as the season progresses based on how his body behaves to the demands of the competition at an age above 40. Hence, he is also on this list.
