As per reports, Rohit Sharma might miss a Test in BGT due to personal reasons. However, it is also possible that he might not miss if the personal commitments are resolved. Irrespective of that, the selectors need to plan for a backup opener. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three players who can replace Rohit Sharma as opener if he misses a few Tests in BGT.
1) B Sai Sudharsan
B Sai Sudharsan has all the attributes to become a top Test cricketer. Considering the future in mind, Sai could get a chance in Australia.
He has some experience already playing in England and that could help him in Australia. If he clicks, it would do wonders for the side.
2) KL Rahul
KL Rahul is one of the players who can replace Rohit Sharma as an opener if he misses a few Tests in BGT. KL Rahul is currently doing well in the middle order. However, he is originally an opener and has done the job before in Australia.
India could find some alternate middle-order options such as Sarfaraz Khan. Hence, KL Rahul could be asked to move up the order and open the batting again. His experience will also help Yashasvi Jaiswal, who will be playing for the first time in Australia.
3) Abhimanyu Easwaran
It has been for a long time now that Abhimanyu Easwaran has been spending time on the sidelines. He has been in stunning form at the domestic level but he is not getting the opportunities at the highest level.
That said, he is now very close to making his debut for Team India. Especially if Rohit Sharma misses out, India would rather prefer not to disturb the middle order and have another opener replace Rohit. Hence, the West Bengal cricketer has a very good chance here.
