As per reports, Mohammed Shami will miss IPL 2024. This is a big blow for Gujarat Titans, who already lost Hardik Pandya in the trade window. Nevertheless, GT has to look ahead and search for an apt replacement. On that note, here, we take a look at three players who can replace Mohammed Shami if he is ruled out of IPL 2024.
1) Sandeep Warrier
Mohammed Shami would have been the obvious choice to open the bowling for Gujarat Titans. In his absence, GT needs to find a player who can provide three overs with the new ball.
Sandeep Warrier has experience in this regard. He has been in decent touch and can fill in the role of Shami, at least, with the new ball. Hence, the Tamil Nadu man is on this list.
2) Ishan Porel
Ishan Porel is one of the players who can replace Mohammed Shami if he is ruled out of IPL 2024. If Gujarat wants a youngster whom they can groom, they can go for Ishan Porel.
For a few seasons now, Ishan has been in the IPL. However, he has not got a lot of chances. He is perfectly capable of doing well for the franchise. If he does well, his presence will also be useful to the unit in the future.
3) Varun Aaron
There could be many who will be against this signing. However, Varun Aaron can be a decent investment for the franchise. There are multiple reasons for the same.
Varun Aaron offers raw pace and can hit the deck hard. This is something Mohammed Shami was supposed to do often for GT. Plus, with two bouncers allowed in an over, someone like Varun Aaron, if used well, can be a great addition to the side. He has experience and would aid the younger bowlers on the side.
