After the team’s dismal show in the ICC Champions Trophy, Jos Buttler has stepped down as the ODI skipper. It will be interesting to see who replaces him, especially in the ODI format. Here, we take a look at the list of three players who can replace Jos Buttler as the ODI captain.
1) Harry Brook
Harry Brook recently became the vice-captain of the side. Hence, it is inevitable that he takes over the reins from Jos Buttler.
It will be a challenge for him as the ODI squad is not in great form. He himself will have to juggle between captaincy and batting tasks.
2) Joe Root can replace Jos Buttler as the ODI captain
Joe Root is one of the players who can replace Jos Buttler as the ODI captain for England. It could be a backward step, but it might be a safe move.
Harry is too young for the responsibility. Root is not bad in the ODI format, and for him, captaining in the 2027 ODI World Cup could become a fine end to his career.
3) Ben Duckett
It is an outside option for England. Brendon McCullum will surely consider this option in the coming days for the role.
Ben has decent experience and he seems to have cracked all the formats of the game. Therefore, he can be a reliable leader.
