3 Players Who Can Replace Anrich Nortje If He Is Ruled Out Of IPL 2022

In a disappointing development for all the fans of the Delhi Capitals IPL team, the franchise’s star South African fast bowler Anrich Nortje is doubtful for the upcoming IPL 2022 season. Nortje was the only overseas player retained by the Delhi-based franchise ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction.

The Capitals retained him and let go of IPL 2020 Purple Cap winner Kagiso Rabada, who joined the Punjab Kings. Speaking of Anrich Nortje, the pacer is yet to receive clearance from Cricket South Africa’s medical team because he has not bowled since November because of injury problems.

There is a slight chance of him missing out on IPL 2022, and here are the three players DC may target as his replacement if he is ruled out.

1. Kane Richardson could be a good pick to replace Anrich Nortje

Former Rajasthan Royals pace bowler Kane Richardson is a wicket-taking bowler in the shortest format of the game. He has represented RR and RCB in the IPL previously. He has 180 T20 wickets to his name, with his best figures being 4/22. Richardson could be a solid addition to the DC squad.

2. Andrew Tye

Former IPL Purple Cap winner Andrew Tye performed exceptionally well for the Perth Scorchers in BBL 2021/22. He starred in the team’s championship win, emerging as one of the leading wicket-takers. Tye has a decent amount of IPL experience as well, making him a player worth considering.

3. Ishant Sharma

While DC would like to sign an overseas player as a replacement if needed for Anrich Nortje, they can also opt for an Indian player. Ishant Sharma has immense experience and was with DC last year as well. He can be welcomed back by the franchise after the veteran pacer went unsold at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. It will be interesting to see if Nortje gets the clearance for IPL 2022.
