It is still not sure on how BCCI will arrange the retention structure for IPL 2025. Nevertheless, some teams will have a clear idea on whom they will release. For Royal Challengers Bengaluru, as well, some decisions are easy to make. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three players RCB will surely release before the IPL 2025 Auctions.
1) Anuj Rawat
It has been a few years since Anuj Rawat joined RCB. Barring a few knocks, the Delhi lad has been extremely poor for the franchise. RCB will want a more solid wicket-keeping choice because Dinesh Karthik is now not available for the team.
In this regard, RCB might start their search afresh and hence, they could release Anuj. For Anuj, as well, it could be better to start freshly in a different franchise in probably a different environment.
2) Alzarri Joseph
Alzarri Joseph is one of the players RCB will surely release before the IPL 2025 Auctions. Yes, he was expensive but Joseph was expected to do well, especially with the rule of two bouncers per over. However, the West Indian cricketer could not step up for the franchise.
Now, RCB seems to have a template and they might prefer cricketers such as Lockie Ferguson who have more variations up their sleeve. They could even target someone like Josh Hazlewood in the next auctions.
3) Tom Curran
It was a surprise when Tom Curran was picked up by RCB in IPL 2024 Auctions. Considering the thin pace attack they had, it was a wrong move, as pointed out by many. Unsurprisingly, he did not get a single game in IPL 2024 because he would not have suited the combination.
RCB will not retain him for the next campaign. The team would want to hire a bowler who can bowl across the phases of the game. They might even go for a foreign spinner.
