Rahul Dravid has joined Rajasthan Royals. While he will look to form a young team that can win multiple trophies, Rahul could also eye some experienced cricketers. 1) Kane Williamson
Last season, when Jos Buttler was absent, RR did not have the right player to replace him. It was one of the main reasons why they could not progress further in the tournament. They must avoid this and also have a suitable backup for him.
Kane Williamson went for his base price in the IPL 2023 Auctions. Based on his current T20 form, he could go unsold. However, it will be a luxury to have him as a backup option. Rahul Dravid could also get the best out of him.
2) Karun Nair
Karun Nair is one of the players Rahul Dravid could hand a lifeline by signing them for Rajasthan Royals. It was at RR that Karun rose through in his IPL career. Later, at Delhi Capitals, he even got a chance to captain the side. In both cases, Rahul Dravid was a part of the management.
Now that Karun is back to form, there could be a chance for him in the IPL. As a backup for the No.3 or the No.4 role, he is still an able candidate. Rahul Dravid could consider signing Karun as it will give him an extra experienced option in the squad.
3) Vijay Shankar
It is now or never for Vijay Shankar in the IPL. He has got multiple seasons to prove himself but till now, he is yet to have one defining campaign.
However, Rahul Dravid likes all-rounders and he might have Vijay as a backup choice in his side. He is decent against spinners and could even be an option at No.4 before Riyan Parag takes over.
