Mumbai Indians had to endure a forgettable season in IPL 2024. Many expected the team to have a good run, especially after trading in Hardik Pandya. However, the result was different with the 5-time champions struggling to find the right balance. A lot of changes are expected before the next season. Here, we take a look at the list of three players Mumbai Indians will surely release before the IPL 2025 Auctions.
1) Piyush Chawla
Piyush Chawla was good for MI in IPL 2023. However, he failed to deliver in IPL 2024. That said, not much must be made about it. Piyush was under pressure as the leader of the spin attack and he hardly found support from the other members.
Considering his age and his diminishing skillsets, Piyush might not have another chance at MI. The management will look at a younger option to lead the spin attack in the future.
2) Mohammad Nabi
Nevertheless, he is likely to be released. Players like Michael Bracewell offer similar attributes and could be dangerous in the long run. MI could rather invest in such players at the auctions.
3) Luke Wood
Luke Wood came in as a replacement in IPL 2024. However, he could not find his footing in the tournament. He lost form and gave away a lot of runs.
Nuwan Thushara and Gerald Coetzee could still be preferred by the franchise going forward. Both these players are talented and might just need the right backing to do well for Mumbai Indians. That said, Luke Wood also has time for development and could be a real deal in the future.
