Lucknow Super Giants did not have a huge purse in IPL 2024 Auctions. On the other hand, they also had a settled squad. They would have needed some good bowlers to fill the gaps and improve some areas of the squad. While their targets were on point since they did not have a lot of money, they fell short when they attempted buying these cricketers. Here, we take a look at the list of three players LSG targeted but could not sign in IPL 2024 Auctions.
1) Harshal Patel
LSG could have issues in the deathovers in IPL 2024. Mark Wood is certain to be one option while someone like Mohsin Khan and Yash Thakur will need to step up.
Hence, the team rightly went after Harshal Patel. However, Harshal went for an amount which was close to the entire purse of LSG. Hence, LSG was forced to give up.
2) Alzarri Joseph
Alzarri Joseph is one of the players LSG targeted but could not sign in IPL 2024 Auctions. If Mark Wood takes up one spot, it will be interesting to see how LSG will build the pace attack around him. Wood could be vulnerable to injuries and this is an issue.
Hence, Alzarri Joseph was on the target list for LSG. However, just like Harshal, even Alzarri went for a sum close to that of LSG’s full purse. Hence, they had to withdraw from the bidding war. RCB eventually signed him.
3) Dilshan Madushanka
If LSG has to use Mark Wood in the death, they have to not use him with the new ball. Also, if he gets injured, LSG would have needed some different kind of bowlers to have a variety of tactics. Hence, they went after Madushanka, who is very close to becoming an all-phase pacer.
However, Madushanka’s price was not affordable for LSG. Eventually, Mumbai Indians signed the Sri Lankan youngster for IPL 2024.
