3 players CSK must prepare for future captaincy along with Ruturaj Gaikwad

At the moment, it looks like Ruturaj Gaikwad is being groomed to replace MS Dhoni as the next skipper of Chennai Super Kings. MS Dhoni could be playing his last season in IPL 2024. However, CSK must be careful here. They should not keep all their eggs in one basket. A few other options must be prepared so that there is sufficient backup for Ruturaj. On that note, here, we take a look at three players CSK must prepare for future captaincy along with Ruturaj Gaikwad.

1) Deepak Chahar

In recent times, even pacers are getting a chance to captain sides. In this context, there is no reason why Deepak Chahar cannot be considered for the role.

He has experience in the IPL and has led some domestic games. Deepak might have fitness issues but he is improving now. He is quite young, as well, for the role and hence, he can be a good choice.

2) Ravindra Jadeja

Jaddu might have failed in his first chance but he would have had a lot of learnings since then. He definitely has the age to go forward and lead the side for a few more years.

If CSK is looking for a transition period, Jaddu should be the first-choice for the captaincy. He has all the skills to experience in this role.

3) Devon Conway

Devon Conway is one of the players CSK must prepare for future captaincy along with Ruturaj Gaikwad. Yes, he might not be in good form and he might also be dropped from the XI next season if he has a bad run. However, Conway is a calm cricketer and intelligent too.

He does not have sufficient captaincy experience but he is a good option for many reasons. He has played at the highest level for a while now and can take decisions under pressure. With respect to age, as well, he would be good for the transition.
