New Zealand, yet again, did well in the 2023 ODI World Cup. The team’s performance in the World Cup would surely garner attention from many IPL franchises. The IPL 2024 Auctions will happen later this year. Stephen Fleming was a part of the New Zealand support staff for the World Cup. The CSK coach is likely to target some of the players whom he has seen closely. On that note, here, we take a look at three New Zealand players Stephen Fleming might target for CSK in IPL 2024 Auctions.
1) Daryl Mitchell
CSK is likely to release Ben Stokes before IPL 2024 Auctions. If the franchise is searching for his replacement, it would end perfectly if they could sign Daryl Mitchell.
He would be the ideal batter to go at No.5, which Ambati Rayudu earlier took up. Daryl is good against spin and he himself can offer a few overs with the ball. Hence, Fleming could target the player.
2) Rachin Ravindra
Rachin Ravindra is one of the New Zealand players Stephen Fleming might target for CSK in IPL 2024 Auctions. The all-rounder was a revelation at the 2023 ODI World Cup. While many knew him as a bowler, Rachin impressed all with his bat.
His game against spin is good and Rachin is developing into a fine off-spinner. Yes, he might need a role in the top-order, which CSK cannot afford now. However, for the future or if Devon Conway‘s form is not good, Rachin would be a suitable option.
3) Matt Henry
If not for Matt Henry’s injury, maybe, New Zealand could have defeated Team India. His absence was a big minus for the side.
While Henry is known for his bowling in Tests and ODIs, he can be a good option in T20Is. Earlier, CSK made this switch for a player like Josh Hazlewood. They can do that for Henry, as well.
