3 MI players who might not get a chance to play in IPL 2023

Mumbai Indians are five-time IPL champions.

Having won the IPL title five times, Mumbai Indians (MI) is the most successful franchise in the history of the tournament. However, 2022 didn’t go their way as they for the first time in the history of the league were the winners of the ‘wooden spoon’ as they ended the league last on the points table.

But with the kind of firepower and the young talent they have in their side, it’s fair to say that they are clear favourites to win the tournament this year. They had a good auction as well as they acquired the likes of Cameron Green, Jhye Richardson, Piyush Chawla, Dean Jansen, Vishnu Vinod, Shams Mulani, Nehal Wadhera, and Raghav Goyal. With all the players having a great reputation, there might be a few unlucky players who might miss out. Let’s take a look at 3 MI players who might not get a chance to play in IPL 2023.

Tristan Stubbs

Rated as one of the most exciting players in the World Cricket. Tristan Stubbs might be one of the unluckiest players to miss out from the playing 11 considering the kind of bench strength Mumbai Indians have. With Cameron Green, Tim David, Jofra Archer and Dewald Brevis all being top-class players, Stubbs will be last in the pecking order. Also, with Mumbai having quality Indian batters as well, there’s almost no chance Stubbs might become part of the playing 11.

Jhye Richardson

Mumbai Indian brought Jyhe Richardson in the IPL 2023 auction. However, he might not get a chance to play in IPL 2023. With Jofra Archer and Jason Behrendorff in the mix, Richardson will have to sit out due to the four overseas slots. With Cameron Green, Tim David, and Brevis in the mix, the franchise is likely to play Archer as the only overseas bowling option. Therefore the doors for Richardson to play in the IPL 2023 might get closed.

Duan Jansen

South African pacer Duan Jansen was also among the buys that Mumbai Indians acquired this year. But, likely, the pacer won’t get an opportunity to play as the franchise might groom him and then unleash him in the coming seasons. With Mumbai’s pace batter all packed up, Jansen might not get a chance to play in IPL 2023.
