Everyone was interested in seeing how Gautam Gambhir would do his job as the Head Coach. It was a good start for him as he helped India whitewash the competition. There were a few visible traits of the team that could have been Gambhir’s idea. Here, we take a look at the list of three major takeaways from Gambhir’s first T20I series as the Head Coach.
1) Plenty of risks will be taken in the bilaterals
In all three matches, Team India ensured that they took adequate risks. Be it with the ball or the bat, there was an intense and attacking approach by the team.
In the past, we have seen Indian players go into a shell when they are put under pressure. However, this did not happen against Sri Lanka.
2) Part-time bowlers will be used more
The usage of part-time bowlers is one of the major takeaways from Gambhir’s first T20I series as the Head Coach. Not many imagined Rinku Singh
This shows that Gambhir is serious about having several multi-dimensional players in the XI. The likes of Riyan Parag were also active with the ball. Going forward, we might also see players such as Yashasvi Jaiswal do something with the ball, too.
3) Batting depth will be a key factor in constructing the playing XI
This is actually connected to the first point. Even at KKR, Gautam Gambhir preferred having a good batting depth. It seems that this will be one of the first criteria for him while deciding the playing XI.
In all games, we had Rinku Singh at No.7 and an all-rounder at No.8. This was also the case in the recent T20 World Cup. Gambhir will probably decide his playing XI’s based on this aspect.
