3 Indian Players Who Have Played In T20 WC Finals More Than Once

The seventh edition of ICC’s T20 World Cup will begin on October 17th. Being held after a gap of five years, the event will take place in the UAE and Oman. Team India has been decently successful in the competition. While they won the first edition, the team reached the finals in 2014 but lost to Sri Lanka. There were a few players who played the finals in both these editions. In this article, we take a look at three Indian players who have played in the T20 WC finals on more than one occasion.

1) MS Dhoni – 2 times (2007 & 2014)

MS Dhoni is one of the Indian players who have played in the T20 WC finals on more than one occasion. He was part of all the six editions of the event so far and captained India in all of them. MS Dhoni will participate in the upcoming T20 World Cup in a different capacity as the mentor of Team India.

In both the finals, MS Dhoni did not get to have an impact with the bat. While in 2007, he got out on 6, against Sri Lanka, he only got seven deliveries to face. Against Pakistan, MSD pulled off a captaincy masterclass to defend the score but failed in the attempt against Sri Lanka.

2) Rohit Sharma – 2 times (2007 & 2014)

Rohit Sharma was a budding cricketer in the lower middle-order in 2007 while he was Team India’s premier opener in the 2014 edition. In both encounters, Rohit had a decent contribution.

In fact, in the inaugural campaign, it was Rohit’s late blitz of 30 runs from 16 deliveries that helped India get to a respectable total. Against Sri Lanka in 2014, he made 29 runs from 26 deliveries at the top of the order.

3) Yuvraj Singh – 2 times (2007 & 2014)

Yuvraj Singh was at his peak in 2007 but was unfortunately at the other end of the form spectrum in 2014. In both the final encounters, Yuvi failed to have an impact.

In 2007, he got 14 runs from 18 balls, while in 2014, he struggled with a 21-ball eleven-run knock. Against Sri Lanka, his stay at the crease had a negative impact as India’s momentum was halted. Had MS Dhoni come to crease earlier, maybe, India could have had a chance to get more runs on the board.
