With KL Rahul dropping form and Shreyas Iyer already out of the Test squad, India now has a vacancy in the middle-order. Yes, the likes of Sarfaraz Khan are there but India needs backups and more options. One way to make this happen could be to use some of the in-form openers as middle-order batters. This tactic has been used before and has helped the side. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three genuine openers India could try in the middle-order in Tests in future.
1) B Sai Sudharsan
B Sai Sudharsan is making runs in various formats and conditions. He is surely a star for the future and a good way to groom him could be to give him a role in the middle order.
Yes, it could demand different things but it will help Sai develop further and become a more complete cricketer in the future. Hence, he is a part of this list.
2) Ruturaj Gaikwad
Ruturaj Gaikwad is one of the genuine openers India could try in the middle-order in Tests in future. Even at CSK, he played for a while at No.3. For Team India, as well, although in a different format, Ruturaj has served in the middle order.
It is shocking to know that he is yet to make his Test debut. That said, his average is not the best either. However, considering his ability to play a long knock, he could get a run in the middle order to improve the depth of the squad. He certainly has the technical skills to survive and succeed in this role.
3) Abhimanyu Easwaran
He has played at the top of the order so far in his career. It could be a tough task for him to get used to a role in the middle order. However, it would be a big disservice to the Ranji Trophy if a player like Easwaran does not make his India debut, especially when he is in good form.
Hence, he can be a very solid choice for the middle order. If he clicks, it will only help India in the long run. Therefore, he is on this list, as well.
