At one point, Shivam Dube was deemed an IPL failure. However, after joining CSK, he became a completely different player. Now, he is the most important middle-order batter for CSK. Even for Team India, he is extremely important in the middle order. Some teams also had a chance to enjoy the benefits of Dube’s peak. On that note, here, we take a look at three franchises which targeted Shivam Dube in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction before CSK signed him.
1) Lucknow Super Giants
Lucknow Super Giants was building a team full of all-rounders at the auctions. Hence, it was not a surprise that they were in for Shivam Dube. Considering some knew about his potential against spinners, LSG was interested in the cricketer.
However, at one point, they had to give up. Shivam was yet to showcase his potential until then. Hence, the KL Rahul-led side had to leave the idea of signing the Mumbai cricketer.
2) Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals is one of the franchises which targeted Shivam Dube in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction before CSK signed him. After RCB released him, Shivam Dube was picked up by Rajasthan Royals for a season.
Hence, they went for him again at the auctions. However, they did not stay in the race for long. They bowed out of the race and some other teams joined the bidding war.
3) Punjab Kings
It was Punjab Kings that gave the tough fight to CSK until the Chennai-based outfit signed the player for INR 4 Cr. Punjab had also fought off interest from LSG to get into the bidding war for Shivam.
CSK was really behind a left-handed middle-order batter who can take on the spinners. Also, CSK always liked versatile players. Hence, it was not a big surprise that they spent a lot of money on the talented cricketer.
