Delhi Capitals and Ricky Ponting have parted ways. The announcement was made on Saturday. Ponting is an excellent coach and some other teams must target him soon. Here, we take a look at the list of three franchises that must desperately target Ricky Ponting as the Head Coach for IPL 2025.
1) Punjab Kings
If PBKS are serious to make an impact and win a trophy in the coming years, they need to show their ambition. It is not that they have not done that. With the kind of competition in the league, PBKS must be more assertive and penetrative.
If they can appoint Ricky Ponting as the Head Coach, this would be a proper first step. Also, they must give him a free hand and trust him for four or five years. It is only then that the results would start coming.
2) Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians are one of the franchises that must desperately target Ricky Ponting as the Head Coach for IPL 2025. Mark Boucher has underperformed for Mumbai Indians. The franchise finished last in IPL 2024 despite having a strong squad.
It was under Ponting as the Head Coach back in 2013 that MI won its first title. It might be a good time to go all the way back. MI is starting a new era and the former Aussie skipper would the perfect man to take the reins. Mumbai Indians can get more structure and a better tactical candidate if they appoint Ponting as the Head Coach.
3) Kolkata Knight Riders
Yes, you heard it right! When Chandrakant Pandit was alone at KKR, the team did not deliver. It was after Gautam Gambhir joined that KKR went on to win the title. Already, there are some rumours about Chandrakant Pandit’s handling of players.
Ponting would be the ideal man to take the franchise forward. He has also represented them in the past and hence, he would be the top choice here.
