3 foreign players who could surprisingly become permanent captains in IPL 2025

The likes of Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran and even Sam Curran are firmly in the race to become an IPL skipper next year. However, due to the IPL retention rules, we could see a few more players join this race. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three foreign players who could surprisingly become permanent captains in IPL 2025.

1) Ben Stokes

Many felt that a player like Pat Cummins, who is measured with his availability, may not be a great IPL skipper. However, Cummins helped SRH reach the finals in IPL 2024.

The same is the case with Stokes. If fitness and availability issues are sorted, he is a serious captaincy contender in the IPL. If he is committed to the cause, a few teams will surely be interested in him.

2) Rashid Khan

Rashid Khan is one of the foreign players who could surprisingly become permanent captains in IPL 2025. The Afghan needs to take the next step in his career and that could involve a captaincy gig in the IPL.

He could even leave the Gujarat Titans to make that happen. A few teams will be interested in having him on the squad. In fact, squads such as Punjab Kings could even offer him captaincy. Therefore, he could be a surprise contender in this regard.

3) Jos Buttler

It is hard to imagine Jos Buttler in a non-Rajasthan Royals jersey. However, the franchise will have to boldy invest in INR 18 Cr or release Riyan Parag to retain the ageing Jos Buttler. Hence, it will not be a surprise if the Englishman goes into the auctions.

Teams like RCB will be desperate to have a player like him as the skipper for the next cycle. They could spend a lot of money to hire the Englishman. This might have not been possible with the old retention rules.
