It appears that Mark Boucher’s time at Mumbai Indians is coming to an end. The South African coach has spent two seasons at the franchise but is yet to display his best skills as a coach. In IPL 2024, Mumbai Indians is all but out of the campaign. Here, we take a look at the list of three coaches Mumbai Indians can target to replace Mark Boucher before IPL 2025.
1) Mike Hesson
It was actually a surprise that RCB released Mike Hesson for just one disappointing season. With Mike Hesson as the Director of Cricket, RCB did well and had a strong team at their disposal.
Team building is one of the strengths of Mike Hesson. He also has good tactics for various situations in the game. Recently, he won the Pakistan Super League with Islamabad United. Hence, he also has trophies to show for.
2) Tom Moody
Tom Moody is one of the coaches Mumbai Indians can target to replace Mark Boucher before IPL 2025. Right now, Mumbai Indians might need a strong individual at the helm of affairs who can exert control over all the aspects of the franchise.
Moody could just be the right person. Known for building solid bowling attacks, Moody also recently won the Hundred. He is an experienced option for the MI management to consider.
3) Mahela Jayawardene
Mahela Jayawardene is already with the Mumbai Indians but with a bigger role. It was under the Sri Lankan coach that Mumbai Indians enjoyed their peak. Yes, he also struggled to reach the playoffs in two seasons but Mahela would still be a safe bet for the management to consider.
With Mahela, there would be role clarity for each individual in the team. There is a set plan and a sufficient number of different approaches if Plan A fails. This simple method might just be what MI needs at the moment.
