On Tuesday, BCCI announced the schedule for the World Cup later this year. As expected, there were a few surprises with some major cities not getting a game in the event. However, it needs to be noted that India has a lot of stadiums and it is hard to satisfy all the associations. On that note, here, we take a look at three cities that deserved matches in ODI Cricket World Cup 2023.
1) Hyderabad
As seen in the recent IPL 2023, Hyderabad surprised many with the ability to get massive crowds for the game. This is despite SRH not having many superstars on their roster. The city has a good cricket fanbase and needed a few games in the event.
Yes, they do have some warmup matches but they will not be intense. Of course, fans will have no interest in watching these games that don’t result in anything.
2) Mohali
Mohali is one of the cities that deserved matches in the ODI Cricket World Cup 2023. The IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali has seen some famous games and it is a surprise that it has been excluded from the event.
A lot might have to do with the pitch and also the condition of the stadium. Nevertheless, the city has some passionate fans and Mohali has produced some legends of Team India. A game or two would have made the fans happy here.
3) Trivandrum
In terms of facilities, the Green Park Stadium is one of the best in the country. It would have been a suitable venue for some games in the World Cup.
The city is also home to a growing fanbase. For BCCI to further expand its branches in the country, a top encounter in Trivandrum could have been a wise move. That said, as mentioned earlier, it is hard to satisfy all the associations and hence, Trivandrum is unlucky here.
