3 candidates England must target as new Head Coach after the 2023 ODI World Cup

Matthew Mott is not having a memorable campaign in the 2023 ODI World Cup. England might sack him if the performance continues. Anyway, it would also be the right time to reset the white-ball units since there is a T20 World Cup next year. Here, we take a look at three candidates England must target as new Head Coach after the 2023 ODI World Cup.

1) Jonathan Trott

Jonathan Trott is one of the leading candidates to take up this role. Of course, Trott would take a look at the next step in his career after doing excellently well with Afghanistan. There would be no better elevation in his career than becoming the new coach of England.

Having been a fine performer as a cricketer, it would be an honour for him to take up the role. It would also be a challenge for the former batter.

2) Eoin Morgan

Eoin Morgan is one of the candidates England must target as new Head Coach after the 2023 ODI World Cup. There is no idea as to what Morgan has decided for the next stage in his career.

He revamped English cricket once and managed to deliver multiple trophies. Morgan might be required to do the same now, albeit as a coach. He has the skills and tactical strengths to make that happen.

3) Ricky Ponting

It would be a major coup if England somehow got Ricky Ponting onboard as the white-ball coach. He is an elite coach and if England can convince Ricky to keep the rivalries aside, it would be a treat to have him coach the English setup.

Ponting has proved that he has a very unique way of managing things. He also showed this as a captain. If the Australia Head Coach role is also vacant, then it would be interesting to see which way Ponting would take.
