Chennai Super Kings had a few flaws in the squad for IPL 2024. They need to start fresh and that could involve taking some hard calls. Especially if there is a Mega Auction before IPL 2025, CSK must be right on the money with their decisions. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three bold retention calls CSK could take before IPL 2025.
1) Release Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja has been declining both as a batter and a bowler. It is high time that CSK has a backup plan for him. Therefore, they could consider releasing the veteran.
At this market, it is not sure if Jaddu would go above the INR 10 Cr mark. Depending on CSK’s valuation of him, they could take a call on his situation.
2) Retain Sameer Rizvi
Retaining Sameer Rizvi is one of the bold retention calls CSK could take before IPL 2025. Samee Rizvi had a tough debut outing in IPL 2024. He had a big salary but he could not do well and CSK was not able to give him a good role.
Sameer has been in top form in the UP T20 League. Having spent so much on him, CSK should have seen the talent in the youngster. He is an uncapped player and could come at a cheap rate. CSK could retain him and give him the permanent role at No.3 to get the best out of the youngster.
3) Release MS Dhoni
At the outset, considering his age, it could be easy to release MS Dhoni. However, it needs to be noted that MS Dhoni is more than just a player for CSK and its fans. It could be a very tough decision to release MS Dhoni.
That said, ahead of the Mega Auction, it is the right time for CSK to look at the future. If the team does not find a future wicket-keeper now, things could get harder further. Hence, they should take the tough decision.
