Auction dynamics are such that after you sign a player, there is still no guarantee that he will turn up. Since auctions happen way before the season, injuries may cause a player to miss a tournament. At times, even if a player is available since there are only four foreigners allowed, some players sit on the bench for an entire season. Here, we take a look at three Australian players who were signed by RCB but never played for the franchise.
1) Steve Smith
Steve Smith was in the RCB squad for a season. However, he was in the team as a spin option and not as a batter. RCB had a good spin attack in the initial seasons. Hence, Smith never got to play for RCB.
Later, Smith played for teams such as Pune Warriors, RPS and Rajasthan Royals. At both RPS and RR, he led the team for a while. However, he does not have an IPL contract now.
2) Nathan Coulter-Nile
Nathan Coulter-Nile was a part of the RCB franchise a few seasons ago. However, the Australian cricketer did not play for the team as he had to miss the tournament due to an injury.
After that, he played for teams such as Mumbai Indians. At the moment, he does not have a contract in the IPL and is also out of the Australian setup. He is a talented cricketer and he does have the credentials to make a strong comeback.
3) Nathan Bracken
Nathan Bracken is one of the Australian players who were signed by RCB but never played for the franchise. In the first season, RCB signed some exciting pacers such as Dale Styen and Nathan Bracken.
However, Bracken had an injury and he could not play for the team. Later, the Aussie pacer did not play again in the Indian Premier League.
