2 World Records Ravichandran Ashwin might break before he retires from International Cricket

Ravichandran Ashwin is probably the best spinner of this era. He has had multiple challenges in his career but has overcome them despite constant criticism. Now, the Tamil Nadu offie is in the final few years of his career. Before he hangs up his boots, there are a few records that Ashwin would want to break. On that note, here, we take at two world records Ravichandran Ashwin might break before he retires from International Cricket.

1) Most Player of the Series Awards in Test cricket – 11 (M Muralidaran)

R Ashwin has, so far, picked up 9 Player of the Series awards. It is just two short of Muralidaran’s 11, which currently stands at the top of the list.

Considering Ashwin would play a few more years and many tournaments would happen in India, the player would definitely have a great chance to beat this record. Many top cricketers such as Sachin Tendulkar did not achieve much in this regard. However, Ashwin has been brilliant and it would be a terrific feat if he goes to No.1 on this list.

2) Most Century+Five wicket haul in an inning – 5 (Ian Botham)

To become the player with the highest number of century+five-wicket hauls in an inning is one of the world records Ravichandran Ashwin might break before he retires from International Cricket. This record is currently held by former English all-rounder Ian Botham.

The fact that Ashwin does so well with the bat proves the kind of cricketer that he is. The other legendary spinners of the past and this era have had only rare good contributions with the bat. However, Ashwin does it regularly and still does well with his primary trade. So far, on three occasions, he has picked up a fifer and hit a century in the same inning. It is well possible that he could cross Ian Botham’s record before he retires.
