2 teams which could retain just 1 player before IPL 2025 Mega Auctions

It is still not sure as to what decision the BCCI would take regarding the retentions before the IPL 2025 Auctions. Irrespective of this decision, some franchises would already be making plans for their future. Usually, in Mega Auctions, players could be acquired at a cheap rate. Considering this, teams could optimize their retentions before a Mega Auction. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of two teams which could retain just 1 player before IPL 2025 Mega Auctions.

1) Punjab Kings

Even in the past, Punjab Kings have made some debatable decisions before a Mega Auction. Now, they do not have a lot of cricketers who are worth of a retention before a Mega Auction. There are definitely some fine youngsters but these players could be available at the auctions again.

Of course, Arshdeep Singh is one name that PBKS will want to retain. He has been in fine form and is India’s No.2 pacer right now. It would be hard to get him back if he is released to the auctions. A lot of teams will be ready to pay a premium fee to hire him. PBKS could plan to build their future around a local player like Arshdeep and hence, PBKS could end up retaining just one cricketer.

2) Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans is one of the two teams which could retain just 1 player before IPL 2025 Mega Auctions. Yes, it may not be a surprise if GT manages to change their squad before the next campaign. Rashid Khan would have wanted captaincy and now that Shubman Gill will get a few more years as the skipper, the Afghan could want to explore opportunities elsewhere.

If GT comes to this situation, they might want to retain Shubman Gill, B Sai Sudharsan and Mohammed Shami. Shami can be injury-prone while Sai could be brought back at a decent rate if there is a RTM card. Hence, only Gill could be retained by the outfit.
